U.S. Court Temporarily Blocks End of Temporary Protected Status for Somalia

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued an updated notice confirming that the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia remains temporarily on hold following a federal court order.

The Department of Homeland Security had previously determined that Somalia no longer met the conditions for TPS and planned to end the designation on March 17, 2026.

However, on March 13, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued an order staying the termination while the legal challenge proceeds.

As a result, TPS protections and related benefits, including Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), remain valid until further notice. USCIS stated that this guidance supersedes the previous update issued on July 17, 2026.
