BREAKING | Trump Administration Tightens Restrictions on “Birth Tourism” in the United States

The administration of President Donald Trump has announced tougher enforcement measures targeting what is commonly known as “birth tourism” — the practice of traveling to the United States primarily to give birth so that the child may acquire U.S. citizenship.

Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff, said the administration is moving to prevent the use of U.S. visas for this purpose and to increase scrutiny of travelers whom authorities believe are entering the country primarily to give birth.

The measures are part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to tighten U.S. immigration and entry policies.

It is important to note that restricting “birth tourism” does not, by itself, eliminate birthright citizenship for all children born in the United States. Birthright citizenship is tied to the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and efforts by the administration to restrict its scope have been the subject of significant constitutional and legal challenges.

Legal disputes are expected to continue over the extent of presidential authority in this area and whether additional restrictions are consistent with the U.S. Constitution and federal law.
