MPAC Calls For Accountability in University Policies

Washington, DC | www.mpac.org | – April 6, 2025 — The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is profoundly disturbed by the recent revocation of student visas at the University of California (UC) system and Stanford University, which have both demonstrated a troubling trend of failing to advocate for and protect their students. Recent revelations have exposed a distressing collaboration between these educational institutions and federal authorities, leading to the unjust revocation of student visas. This practice disrupts the educational paths and lives of these students and casts a shadow of fear and uncertainty across campuses.

Historically, both the UC system and Stanford University have demonstrated a trend to yield to external pressures at the expense of safeguarding the rights and welfare of their students. This pattern of behavior reveals a profound disregard for the foundational principles of freedom and protection that are supposed to underpin educational institutions. Such actions not only erode the reputations of these institutions but also jeopardize the futures of their students, undermining the trust and security that are necessary for an effective educational environment.

MPAC strongly condemns these actions and calls on the UC system and Stanford University to immediately reassess and realign their policies and actions with the fundamental rights and protections due to every student. As an organization dedicated to upholding justice and protecting the rights of all individuals, MPAC is committed to holding these institutions accountable. We will pursue all available means, including legal avenues, to ensure that these universities address their current failures, protect their student’s civil liberties, and institute long-term changes that prevent future violations of student rights.

In standing with the affected students and the broader community, MPAC emphasizes its readiness to support any initiatives to rectify these wrongs. We urge the University of California system and Stanford University to take swift and transparent steps to restore trust and ensure the safety and rights of their students are unequivocally upheld. These measures are vital not only to address immediate trust issues but also to uphold the core values of academic excellence and integrity while ensuring the protection of civil liberties and First Amendment rights. This dual focus will fortify the institution’s commitment to both academic standards and a free, dynamic educational environment.
