Muslim Voter Turnout Promising But Must Be Higher. Vote on Nov. 5th!

CAIR is sending out 600,000 text messages encouraging registered Muslim voters to turn out.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is reminding every eligible American Muslim voter to turn out to vote tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5th after early voting numbers indicated that Muslim turnout is “promising, but must be higher.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“We commend the hundreds of thousands of American Muslims who have turned out to vote early. Turnout numbers for our community so far are promising, but they need to be much higher. We encourage all remaining American Muslim voters to show up on Election Day.

“We know that many of you are disillusioned and frustrated due to U.S. support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, but sitting on the sidelines of this election will not help the people of Gaza or anyone else. Elected officials take communities seriously when they fully participate in the political process, including by exercising their right to vote. No matter who you support, showing up to vote is a display of political strength.

“Remember that the presidential race is just one of many races on the ballot. No matter who you support for president, make sure you vote in races up and down the ballot, from city council to school board to state legislature to Congress.”

CAIR has been working throughout election season to mobilize Muslim voters, including in the final days of the election.

Over the weekend, CAIR sent over 300,000 text messages reminding registered Muslim voters across the county, including key swing states, to plan to vote and turn out on election day. CAIR plans to send a second follow-up message today reminding Muslims about tomorrow’s election. A second round of 300,000 messages is scheduled to go out today.

On Friday, CAIR released the results of its latest and final poll of Muslim voter preferences in the 2024 presidential election showing that 42% now favor Green Party nominee Jill Stein for president while 41% favor Vice President Kamala Harris. This is a statistical tie similar to the 29% support each candidate received in CAIR’s late August survey. CAIR notes that 95 percent of Muslim poll respondents said they plan to turn out to vote.
