Democratic Senate candidate says he rejected $20M offer to challenge Tlaib By Fatmeh Bakhit | Alenteshar Newspaper

In a significant revelation on social media, US Democratic Senate candidate Hill Harper disclosed that he was offered $20 million to drop out of the Michigan Senate race and instead challenge Representative Rashida Tlaib. Harper, transitioning from his acting career in “The Good Doctor” to politics, emphatically declined the proposal, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and opposition to being influenced by wealthy special interests.

This offer, as Harper described, was split into a direct $10 million contribution and another $10 million in independent expenditures. The proposition was reportedly made by Michigan businessman Linden Nelson, known for his connections with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and previous attempts to unseat Tlaib.

Tlaib, a vocal critic of Israel, has been a target for AIPAC, especially amidst the recent onslaught of bombings on Gaza by the Israeli Government. Her stance has sparked controversy, leading to bipartisan censure in Congress over remarks deemed antisemitic by some. Harper, aligning with Tlaib’s call for a ceasefire in the conflict, has positioned himself in opposition to the current administration’s policy.

The Michigan Senate race is gaining attention with a crowded field of candidates vying to replace retiring Senator Debbie Stabenow. This incident, highlighting the intersection of money, politics, and foreign policy, underscores the complexities and challenges within American political campaigns.
