One of New Jersey’s most closely watched immigration cases continues to unfold as Muhammed Emanet, executive manager of Jersey Kebab, faces legal proceedings that could jeopardize his future in the United States despite being married to a U.S. citizen and raising two U.S.-citizen children.

The case follows months after Muhammed’s parents, the owners of the popular Jersey Kebab restaurant, made national headlines when they were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE. Although they were later released, their immigration cases remain ongoing.

According to U.S. media reports, Muhammed recently received a Notice of Intent to Deny his application to adjust his status to lawful permanent residence a Green Card, placing his immigration future in uncertainty and raising concerns about his ability to remain with his family in the United States.

Immigration attorneys note that, depending on the circumstances of a case, some applicants seeking permanent residence may be required to complete the immigrant visa process through a U.S. consulate in their country of origin. In certain situations, departing the United States can trigger legal consequences, including potential bars to reentry, depending on an individual’s immigration history and the applicable provisions of U.S. immigration law.

Muhammed’s case has sparked widespread support throughout the local community. Residents, customers, and supporters have launched a letter-writing campaign urging authorities to consider his contributions, describing him as a respected community member, devoted husband and father, and an important part of the family business.

The case also highlights the complexity of the U.S. immigration system, where even individuals married to American citizens may encounter significant legal obstacles. Immigration experts continue to emphasize the importance of obtaining qualified legal counsel before making decisions that could affect a person’s immigration status.

Muhammed Emanet’s case remains pending, and no final decision has been issued regarding his immigration status or his future in the United States.
