California Commission on the State of Hate Community Forum

Los Angeles, CA – The California Civil Rights Department’s Commission on the State of Hate hosted an important event titled “Community Forum: The State of Hate and Bullying Experienced by California’s Youth” on Thursday, November 9, 2023. This pivotal gathering, held at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles and available virtually, aimed to address the critical issues of hate and bullying affecting young Californians.

The forum featured insightful presentations from high school and college students who shared their personal experiences and the broader impacts of hate and bullying on various groups, including racial, ethnic, religious minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community. These testimonies provided a powerful and eye-opening perspective on the challenges faced by young people in today’s society.

In addition to student presentations, the forum offered valuable information on resources available to assist those experiencing hate and bullying. One of the key resources highlighted was the “California vs. Hate Resource Line and Network,” a significant initiative designed to support individuals targeted by hate.

For those who could not attend in person, the forum was accessible through a provided Zoom link and could also be joined by phone. This accessibility ensured that a broader audience could benefit from the discussions and resources shared.

The event underscored the importance of community involvement in tackling issues of hate and bullying. It provided a platform for young voices to be heard and for public awareness to be raised about the support systems in place for those affected. The forum not only facilitated an open dialogue on these pressing issues but also highlighted the ongoing efforts to foster a safer and more inclusive environment for all youth in California.

This Community Forum represented a significant step in addressing the state of hate and bullying experienced by California’s youth, offering a blend of personal narratives, educational resources, and community support. As such, it marked an essential milestone in the ongoing journey towards greater understanding, compassion, and action in the fight against hate and bullying in California.
